Wekend Warrior #2 Sicilian Festa in Little Italy

image

Little Italy's Festa 2014

After what seems like a million day hiatus I have finally finished my post about the Little Italy Festa this past May.
Last weekend (May 18th) I went to Little Italy and enjoyed the Sicilian Festa.
This is a festival that they have every year celebrating Sicilian life.   Just being there reminded me of my time in Italy.  There were tons of street vendors and restaurants selling their food, and various stages playing music from up beat dancing music to my favorite Opera from the San Diego Opera Company.  So keep reading to see and even watch my adventure on this wonderful weekend.

The very first thing I had to do was check out the food, because the air was laced with the savory smell of fried calamari and Arancini and the sweetness of amaretto layered within the tiramisu.

The vendor that caught my eye was this one called Cafe Zucchero
And no it is not just because they had a giant sign that said Fried Calamari in large bold letters.  Well, ok maybe that was a large part of it.  But additionally it had a long line. And over the years when it comes to food I have come to learn that where ever there is a line, it's best to give it a try.

So here comes pictures of delicious food.....
Warning: MAY CAUSE EXCESSIVE SALIVATION LIKE PAVLOV'S DOGS

FRIED CALAMARI

 ARANCINI

THE INSIDE OF THE ARANCINI
On the inside of the arancini there is rice, capers, and ground beef making it extra special because usually it only has rice on the inside.  Definitely having this again next year.

Now onto the Entertainment

For your pleasure I took the liberty to take some video footage of the San Diego Opera Company and there amazing showcase they had at the festa.  Bare with me, this by all means is not professionally filmed so there are a few admirers who get into the shot.

Ciao,

Websites I've been loving this month

For the month of May here are some websites I have been loving.

1) www.eatthismuch.com

Now the reason why I love this site so much is because if you are trying to lose weight like I am, it tells you how many calories you should be eating to reach your goal and plans out each meal for you.  If you don't like what was planned for you, you can refresh just that meal or the whole daily plan to get another.  Lastly, it gives you the recipes for each meal, most of which are simple and use items that you probably already have in your kitchen.

2) www.livecareer.com

Second on my list of site favorites this month is Live Career.  Not only does this site have career tips, but it also can make your resume stick out from the masses.  This is because it can take your boring and lifeless resume and turn it into a "you've got to pick me!" resume, by reformatting it to show your best self.  But, it doesn't stop there!  You can also get incredible tips for formating cover letters as well as professional/ business thank you letters.  The only down fall is that if you want to print the document you have to pay $1.95 for a 14 day trial.  But when it comes to your career, it is worth it to spend that little $2.   Oh and I forgot to mention that it also tailors your resume to the particular field of work you are applying to.

Eastlake Food Truck Gathering!

Every Wednesday in Eastlake there is a food truck gathering where a few of SD's famous trucks gather and feed the masses.  It takes place at Eastlake's design district located at this address
Eastlake Design District
871 Showroom Pl
Chula Vista, CA
Wed 5:30pm-8:30pm
The best time to go is between 6-7, that way its not too early  and not too late.  This is a good tip because it is easier to see what truck has the best food by the line up in front.  That way you can go directly to the best trucks.
Here is some of the food I have tried over the past two weeks

By the Truck SuperQ
BBQ Pork Asada Fries
they are the Bomb.com and are
composed of fries, jalapeƱos, cheese,
pork, and BBQ sauce

Half of a SuperQ Pork Melt
It contains yummy shredded pork with a
heavy layover of Mac n' Cheese
also the Bomb.com
By the Truck Devilicious
Truffle Fries
These Bad Boys are covered in truffle oil and parmesan cheese.
Imagine McDonald's fries with an extra cheesy twist, because that is
exactly how they taste.

All Crab Crab Cake..
This Masterpiece is in between a toasted
sourdough English muffin, and is paired with Lettuce,
Tomato, Red onion, and a Spicy House Aioli.
Or you can choose to make it Benedict style
with a Sunny Side Up Fried Egg.

By the MexiCalbi Truck
For those of you that need the vegetarian diet, don't worry their is stuff for you too!
This is the Tostada Bowl
by the MexiCalbi truck and instead of
using chicken or beef they use tofu.
The way
they prep it, it is pretty much
impossible to
taste that it is tofu.  The Other ingredients include:
fresh cabbage & romaine tossed in a sesame vinaigrette
dressing, mandarin oranges, crispy noodles, guac,
mixed cheese, and citrus ginger sauce all
served in a deep fried tortilla bowl

WEEKEND WARRIOR #1: Cruising on the beach 03/29/2014

image

1) Cruising on the beach 03/29/2014
I know this isn't extremely exciting when it comes to weekend warrior activities, but cruising down the walkway between Mission and Pacific beach is one thing you have to do when in SD.  It is like an essential activity because you can enjoy people watching, exercise, and a great Ice cream place called Baked Bear.  Now I definitely sound like a fatass.  But, seriously the ice cream at this place is to die for because they make any kind of ice cream sandwich you can dream of.  You can put red velvet ice cream in between two brownies, or go old fashion with vanilla ice cream between 2 chocolate chip cookies, or any other amazing combination of sweet treats.
Keep watch the next post is going to be either trapeze school or rock climbing............
Over and out my weekend warriors!

SNOOZE A.M. EATERY! (Best weekend brunch!)

SNOOZE A.M. EATERY! (Best weekend brunch!)

image

Last weekend I hit up Snooze AM Eatery down in Hillcrest for the first time and I have to admit, they had the best damn pancakes I have eaten in a very long time.  I was attracted to the resurtant because there isn't a day where there isn't a line half way down the block.  And I finally got a Saturday off from work.
If its your first time at Snooze, I recommend you always ask what the pancakes of the day are.  This is because they are always changing up and further perfecting their already perfect stacks.  On this given Saturday I ordered the pancakes of the day and this is what they looked like...

image
Just looking at this picture makes we want to go back tomorrow.  Man you know you're a complete foodie when you reminisce over food pics...  So while I ponder my meal here are the ingredients.
This badass stack is composed of white chocolate, peanuts, peanut butter, and caramel sryup drizzled on top .  Aka all the ingredients you need to put you in a happy and adventurous mood.

But if sweets are not your thing for the AM you can get huevos rancheros, breakfast burritos, their lip smacking corned beef and hash, or some other eggie breakfast originals.

Happy Eating and Get out and explore my Weekend Warriors!!!!!
